Imperialism
Imperialism is domination by one region, a country, of the political, economical, or cultural life of another region, another country.
There came to be a major competition between the major European powers for new colonies. France, Germany, and Great Britain were among the strongest imperialist powers. France had possessed colonies such as modern-day Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia, and parts of West Africa and India. Germany had control of modern-day Tanzania, Namibia and the Cameroon in Africa, concessions in China, and more. Great Britain controlled colonies in India, South Africa, Australia, New Zealand, Canada, Hong Kong, parts of North Africa, and more.
The competition between nations for colonies became a large factor in the development of the war.
